I don't understand what I don't understand
about people that remain in a by-force marriage. If the relationship isn’t working,
just up and leave. When people compel their partners to remain in a marriage, I
can’t wrap my mind around it.
The impetus of this article is
that Nigeria is a union of incompatible bed-fellows. Nigeria was formed, amalgamated by people that didn't
consider the big difference between Northern and Southern Nigeria. Our differences
are just too jarring and glaring.
In Media Law, I got to know that
what works in Southern Nigeria might not work in Northern Nigeria. Most states
in Northern Nigeria practice Sharia Law. This is not the same for Southern
Nigeria. One country, different legal systems. Interesting, right?
Afenifere threatened to secede if
Falae wasn’t released ASAP. Obviously, they were taking it personal that the
Fulanis arrested Falae to prove a point. That’s how it seemed to me. In the
end, it was just some “regular” Fulani herdsmen that kidnapped Falae. One
somebody (I feel he’s a failed politician because he’s always saying or posting
something controversial. He’s read too much of Robert Greene’s books- “always
court attention”. He failed to read The Reversal to the Law part of the book)
said that Buhari enabled the abductors. Some people should be arrested for
treason. Honestly.
The Niger Delta region had done
the whole militancy thing. Abductions here and there. In the end, their blood
cooled down.
As
if it were not enough, Nnamdi Kanu, Director of the controversial Radio Biafra and Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been crying Biafra, Biafra uppandan
up and down. He was arrested and granted bail.
The thing is simple. Who are we
kidding? These different parts of Nigeria want to secede. Why are we still a
country? Look at it from a logical angle. There is no point being a country
when we know we don't want to be a country. I just feel it is an act of
hypocrisy saying we are one Nigeria. If we were one Nigeria, tribalism would
not be an issue. Ethno-religiosity and corruption are the major problems we’re
facing in Nigeria.
It’s not by force for us to be
one country. If we feel we must break
up, fine. If I’m crossing the Niger, I know I’m going to another country. I
could have more prospects as a foreigner than going there as someone from
another part of Nigeria.
Come to think of it, if we were
not “One Nigeria”, there won’t be tribalism. There won’t be tribes. I’m just
musing, though.
P.S. Hypocrisy
[hi-pok-ruh-see]
A pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.
The "virtuous character" here means "One Nigeria". One Nigeria means no tribalism and all.
