Pals that 'steal' together, get suspended together: Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini |
They say, ''when the storm is raging and blows off your
neighbour’s roof, be prepared, because yours might be next''. (OK, I know I just made it up, but trust me, there is a saying to this effect, after all this is
Africa…*wink*). This saying is a perfect fit for the recent
developments in the 'almighty' world football governing body, FIFA.
Erstwhile FIFA President, Sepp Blatter and UEFA's President, Michel Platini are the subjects of the
above saying; the recent wave of investigation and corruption charges
directed at the
Football ruling house is the 'storm'; Jack Wagner, Jerome Valcke, Amos Adamu and other previously suspended/banned/disgraced officials of FIFA are the 'neighbours'.
If you are not living in a cave or a football bluff, then
you would be aware of the heaps of corruption unearthed in FIFA which have seen
several top officials indicted and either suspended or banned for life.
At first The headman, Sepp Blatter, repeatedly claimed that he’s clean. But, that seem
to be hogwash now as the FIFA ethics committee have handed him and UEFA president,
Michel Platini, a 90 day suspension with effect from today.

New FIFA President: Issa Hayatou |
In local parlance we say, ''if one person own no spoil,
another person own no go better''. Not that I'm wishing Blatter bad, but, hey, finally, an African sits on football’s highest chair!
Congrats to Hayatou. Hope he reps Africa well.
