You know how sometimes you relate to the tragedy of a film heroine and you feel bad for her? Like I know I felt bad for Naina in Kal Ho Naa Ho because the woman had some serious heartbreak happening there or even Aarohi in Aashiqui 2. But at the same time, sometimes films have these tragedy queens, that are more like the ones who kind of bring on the trouble and then make a puppy face. Umm, why not act smarter and avoid the trouble in the first place, woman? The ‘abhla naari’ days are gone!
Here are 5 damsels who loved their distress, if you know what I mean!
1. Aisha – AIShA
Aisha was not a match maker, she was not cupid. She may have actually been a failed scriptwriter. You know, someone who failed at writing for movies and wanted to script everyone’s life following the picture in her head. When her imaginary scripts failed, she went into sad mode with wine and ice cream. Would have been better if she had kept to her own business from the beginning. Not breathing down everyone’s neck. At least you won’t lose it enough to sip wine with a straw.
2. Shruti – Barfi
Shruti fell in love with Barfi, but her mother dissuaded her from marrying him. He wouldn’t have been able to take care of her, financially and all that. She married another guy but when Barfi moved on from her, she wanted him back. If you choose the superficial stuff needed to live life, stick to that. Why go all “I want him back”? I don’t feel bad for you, you chose the life you wanted.
3. Divya – Bodyguard
So she fell in love with the bodyguard but until the last moment, didn’t do anything about it. Even if that is accepted, was she sleeping for years when Maya married him? Is technology and more importantly standing up for yourself so dead in today’s time? Rather, you moped and pined over someone just walking away with the love of your life instead of tracking them down and fixing it.
4. Meera – Cocktail
Overall, Cocktail was a script gone sour, and Meera’s character development was bipolar. She detested Gautam and not in the “pehle woh mujhe bilkul nahi pasand tha, phir accha lagne laga” way. She hated his guts and his casanova ways. Suddenly, she fell so much in love with him that she was ready to hurt the girl who gave her shelter? When Veronica blasts her, does Meera become the damsel in distress? How and why? And just FYI, that wasn’t love. It was a vodka shot that led up to a kiss.
5. Maya – Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Maya was a miserable character, start to end. She married the guy as an obligation. Add to that, he was head over heels in love with her. Still, she could have either compromised or walked out. Why did she have a long face and irritated vibe throughout?
