The Chinese have been in the news in Ghana lately for their involvement in illegal mining. A young Chinese man has however being spotted in the capital driving a taxi. There have been concerns over the increasing spate at which foreigners, especially, the Chinese are venturing into businesses meant for Ghanaians.

Chinese in Ghana have a new ‘galamsey’ in taxi driving. The Akufo-Addo led administration have declared ‘war’ on the persons involved in the illegal mining businesses.

Over the period, over 500 excavators and earthmoving equipment have voluntarily withdrawn after the sector minister's 21-day ultimatum to Chinese galamseyers. Meanwhile, some Chinese galamseyers have also been arrested during the crackdown period.

The intriguing question is, are the Chinese taking over businesses like taxi driving reserved for the locals?
