President Mohammadu Buhari who assumed office on the 29th of May 2015 has made numerous economic policies which has had both negative and positive effects on the Nigerian populace. As oil prices have collapsed coupled with the recent bombing of oil facilities by the Niger Delta Avengers militant group, leading to a drop in over 50percent of oil exploration in Nigeria, our foreign earnings have also tumbled with them, putting huge pressure on the Naira. 

The price crude oil has fallen to $32 a barrel, in the months since President Buhari came into power. Nigeria's income for the third quarter of 2015 was almost 30% lower than for the same period the year before, and foreign reserves have dwindled by $9 billion in 18 months.

Sequel to the removal of fuel subsidy, the price of fuel has also sky-rocketed from #86 naira per liter to #145naira per liter, leading to a tremendous rise in the price of commodities and transportation. Today commodities are extremely on the high side, as some are over 80percent high as against their usual price.

In a bid to protect the dwindling hard-currency reserves, the president blocked importation. 

With another been the President's refusal to devalue the naira by keeping the naira, pegged at 197-199 to the dollar.
