The Shade Room, one of the
fastest growing entertainment platforms on Facebook with 4.4 million followers
in just two years of its launch, and owned by Nigerian-American, Angie Nwandu, was
shut down by Facebook over what the social media site term “copyright
violations.”
The Shade Room is a gossip and
entertainment platform focused on African-American movies, TV, music and
reality stars.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed
to BuzzFeed News that the reason for shutting down The
Shade Room was
copyright violations.
But, Angie Nwandu speaking to
Nieman Lab said that although they have been reported for violations in the
past, she felt they were being targeted.
“Nothing was posted that violated
any rules to my knowledge. We have been targeted on Facebook and have been
receiving numerous reports over things that don’t violate the terms. The amount
of reports have been excessive.”
