Spanish Football giants, Real
Madrid, have sacked their manager, Rafa Benitez after just seven months as
manager of the ten times European champions.
Benitez was sacked on Monday
(yesterday) after a meeting of the club’s top management. It had been reported
that the board were uncomfortable with Benitez’s style of football that has
seen the star-studded team play like a shadow of themselves. Sunday’s 2-2 draw
with Valencia was the last straw that broke the camel’s back as Real now sit third
on the La Liga
table; four points below league leaders, Atletico Madrid.
Club legend and erstwhile coach
of Real Madrid’s B-team, Zinedine Zidane, has been elevated to succeed Benitez
as the new manager of the first team. Zidane who was an integral part of Real’s
golden galacticos era of the early 2000s is now Real’s 11th manager
in Club President Florentino Perez’s 12 years reign.
