A Japanese company, Kyocera, has developed a smartphone that
can be washed with soap and water. The smarphone, Digno rafre, can be completely
submerged in water and washed.
This is in response to the alarming rate by which
smartphones harbour germs that can easily be passed from one person to another,
especially children.
The company claims that despite the fact that waterproof
smartphones have been on the market for a while, the Digno rafre is the first
device that can be washed in soapy water. The
company’s development team
revealed that they washed the smartphone more than 700 times to make sure it
really is waterproof.
The phone would cost about $175 and it is aimed at parents
who want to keep their smartphones clean around their children. The company
however warned that only certain types of soap could be used on the device.
