Barely a week after another passenger
with 108 debit cards was arrested at Murtala Mohammed International Airport,
Lagos, NDLEA has arrested another set of travellers with 89 debit cards.
The two men conspired with other people to dodge scrutiny from government agencies by opening various bank accounts with the aim of using the debit cards to withdraw money on a daily basis abroad.
Over the weekend, the National
Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, nabbed Nweke Pauline Osita, 40, with 65
debit cards and Egesiokwu Frank Chukwudi,41, possessing 24 debit cards.
The two men conspired with other people to dodge scrutiny from government agencies by opening various bank accounts with the aim of using the debit cards to withdraw money on a daily basis abroad.
This is a money laundering approach
where different debit cards are used to withdraw money in order to go against
the maximum amount of cash an individual is permitted to withdraw in a day.
P.S. They said they are likely to
spend 170 years in jail. I hope they have a good reception when they get out.
