Following the arrest of the former minister of Petroleum resources, Allison Diezani Madueke, and her subsequent release on bail, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided the suspects home in Nigeria on Friday only to discover millions of naira tucked away in her residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
The actual amount of what was discovered in her home has not yet been fully disclosed by the EFCC, but one spokesperson who was interviewed said the amount was only N1.2 million. It was also learned that the EFCC, which has a working pact with UK anti-corruption agencies, swept into Diezani’s fortified home with the help of her former aides, breaking through the window and recovering vital documents, which it hopes to use to prosecute her when the trial begins in London.
Diezani who has been granted bail will soon likely be charged to court in London by the NCA. She will not be alone though as more suspects are hinted to also be arraigned, these are mostly Nigerian big business moguls who have had their hands stained by corruption. This NCA published on their site just recently.
The NCA has refused to release the names of all the suspects saying the law did not allow them to make such revelations before being charged to court.
Diezani's trial will imminently be announced and as expected many Nigerians residing in the U.K will troop to watch the possible conviction of one of the most prominent former ministers in Nigeria.
And so the witch-hunt continues...
