"You can't fire me, I quit!" - Vincent Enyeama |
Super Eagles captain and first choice goal-keeper, Vincent Enyeama, has announced his retirement from International football, via his instagram page.
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone following the recent development between Enyeama and Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh.
For the benefit of those who are just returning from Mars or just waking up from a coma, there has been no love lost between Oliseh and Enyeama since the game against Tanzania
when Enyeama had to hurriedly pull out of the team, due to his mother passing on.
The animosity was renewed on Wednesday, in Belgium, where the team are camping for the friendly games against DR Congo and Cameroon. One version of the gist is that Enyeama came late to camp and Oliseh decided to replace him with Ahmed Musa as captain, this didn't sit well with Enyeama who decided to address the whole team but Oliseh refused to let him talk at the meeting. An altercation ensued and Oliseh had to ask security to walk out Enyeama.

Whether this is the true story or not, we will never know, but Enyeama posted this later that day:
While Oliseh, in an interview, said that he took the decision to make Ahmed Musa the captain because the team leader has to be someone who is dedicated to the future of the team, and not someone who is "thinking of retirement".
The aftermath of this power-tussle tale is that; Enyeama walked out of camp and announced his resignation with these words:
While the Super Eagles lost 2-0 to DR Congo on Thursday.
More woes for Oliseh, you agree?!
