What is it with Jidenna and Nigerians? Why do we (Nigerians)
pick and scrutinise every little thing this Igbo-American (like he identifies
himself) music artiste say and/or do?
Just when the dust around the controversy surrounding
comments the classic man crooner made during an interview; about how
dangerous Nigeria is and how he is targeted in Nigeria because he’s
light-skinned, is settling, he has entered some Nigerians’ black book again.
So, Jidenna did this very artistic photoshoot that is meant
to promote the African heritage and Ankara fabric but then, Nigerians can never
be satisfied no matter how good his intentions are.
Immediately the photos surfaced online, Twitter Nigeria went
in hard on him with accusations ranging from neo-colonialism to re-enacting/
mocking the slave period.

Na wa o. I taya. Because me, I only see a superb artistic
representation of the black culture and heritage. I see a highly-successful
mixed-race artiste who (unlike others who would prefer never to be linked with
their African roots) is doing his part to promote Nigeria in the global arena.
But then, maybe I’m short-sighted. Please, scrutinise the picture
for yourself and tell me what you think…
