One of the suspects who brutally murdered a 400 level student of
the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Oluwafemi Shonibare has confessed.
According to New Telegraph, the suspect identified as Yusuf Aliu
made the confession yesterday night when he was paraded alongside others
at the state Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo.
The police said the three men involved in the murder wanted to use
the student for money ritual. Abdulrofiu said that they hit Shonibare
with a pestle on the head and later butchered him.
He added that Shonibare’s head was roasted but that luck eventually
ran out on them and they were apprehended by the police. Earlier
yesterday, Shonibare’s decomposing body was discovered in the bush close
to the house of the Islamic cleric in Osogbo.
Residents of Jafaria Street were said to have alerted the police to
the discovery. It was deposited in the morgue pending a post-mortem to
ascertain the cause of his death. Police sources said it was the Alfa
who showed the police where the body was dumped.
The three suspects arrested by the police
“Showing us the place has not exonerated him from the crime until he is proven otherwise,” the source said.
The students of the institution rushed to the scene where the body was found.
“We wept uncontrollably when we saw his decomposing body. On
getting to the scene, the odour that oozed out from the bush was
unbearable but we had no choice than to stay and mourn the departed soul
in a solidarity manner,” one of the students said.
Speaking on the development, the Deputy Coordinator of the National
Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the South-West, Saheed
Afolabi, confirmed the discovery.
