Juliet is someone I will never forget. She was an Ishan girl and it happened that my PPA was made an Ishan League place, we had close to 10 Ishan corpers there and whenever they considered us infidels, they switched to their language and left us all floating.
There were actually 2 Juliets, small Juliet and big Juliet and am currently referring to small Juliet. Not that she had a small stature, but the other Juliet was considered big Juliet because she happened to have the total control over this other one.
You won’t want to believe these girls actually passed through the university. The way they interacted and related with others. They were considered so razz you would never dare to mess with them. And you know what , Juliet got the job of a hotel Manager after service. A 3-star hotel for that matter.
Ajibor was an Ilaje lady I would never forget in the sense that you would never meet any other lady of her kind anywhere. Ajibor won’t mind following her student home to get maggi. She was , in my own opinion, considered loose, She cared less about the environment around her, she could open up her 'bakery' without caution for so long and you would be so surprised to see Ajibor wearing skirt on the NYSC Jungle booth.
Nkwor is from Akwa Ibom and you would as well be so surprised she passed through the University. She claimed to study at UNICAL and it was HTML or rocket science to her speaking English language. We wondered how she communicated with students in the class room.
I happened to be her number 1 enemy. She considered me a threat, as I would not even speak pidgin with her, I would go straight to speaking pure English and when she wouldn’t understand me anymore, you would hear something like ‘You this Yowuba boy, go raway’ we would all burst into laughter.
Prosper was the CLO of my batch, so sound in Table Tennis, he should be representing Nigeria. His second PPA was the Table Tennis Joint at sports center. Prosper looked so good, almost all the girls at the lodge wanted a piece of him.
Biggie was that Ishan boy that mingled with everyone despite being a classical dude. He was so funny and represented Anambra state in the Intra State NYSC sports competition.
Uyi was just too aggressive for my liken , he would make an attempt to fight a student, though a good protective figure for ladies, as he's so huge and tall. What a corps member. He was cool though, he always told to me kill my ambition of wanting to become an artiste, that my voice and that of the frog sound familiar.
Olaitan was that Yoruba with a perfect figure. We were close and she was so nice, everyone loved her. You know all these Yoruba girls that would be so big, with big buttocks, but would have a very flat stomach. That is Olaitan. Everyone wanted her, but it seemed she was engaged to someone from home and this made her an enemy to most of the desperate men around
Kiwi was that FUTA guy that just got all the swags, he loved women so much you would conclude it was the air he breathe. Kiwi would not even care if you were a village girl. All meats are edible.
His favourite quote was ‘Even dirty water can quench fire’ unfortunately, he left Awka with a heart break. The hunter eventually got hunted and he was jilted by a lady I had written about.
Myself, they called me Damilola, and I happened to be the youngest of all. So stubborn and no one ever beat me in the game of Scrabble so they nicknamed me ‘Scrambler’ They all marveled at my taste for big things despite having a small stature. ‘Small in a big package’ is what I always told them.
The POP would be in some few weeks and I was already getting prepared to leave Awka, writing my will and dashing out my things to those who deserved it. And when I say dashing out, we also dashed out our dates. I remember a corps member giving me the numbers of his ex-dates and I still rolled with these girls. It was a common practice among corpers. When I was about leaving, I gave some couple numbers to one guy and he blew all telling them chicks I gave him their numbers…so dumb.
I overturned everything on him and made them realize he stole their numbers on my phone.
I never made any attempt applying for jobs, which was not really a bad choice for me as I had planned working for myself, not realizing it was not the way Robert Kiyosaki painted it in his books I had read. The situation in the real world would present me with different cards. And I wish I had taken the right steps earlier.
My sojourn into joblessness was about to start, but that was not deterring me from enjoying my life and not giving a damn even when I lost some little jobs I was able to get. I remember, a boss firing me at a time. And I wrote a letter to him later on thanking him for giving me freedom. Not that I had a concrete plan, but I was happy to always see the light of the day in my room by 10a.m and not sitting at a job. I knew i would be a blogger and www.wenogetjob.blogspot.com was already in my womb then.
Not that I was lazy. Am smart, intelligent, cunning and highly versatile. But I just don’t know why I would not just get my dream job of between N300, 000 – 500,000 monthly.
