American superstar Jay-Z and Rihanna have been sued by a Nigerian promoter/businessman for over N30 million naira ($160,000) for bailing out on a concert that was supposed to go down in Nigeria. However according to reports, Jay’s people say the promoter might have been conned.
The suit was filed at the Manhattan Supreme Court this week, and promoter Chris Ubosi has claimed that he spoke to Rihanna’s representatives and scheduled her for a show in Lagos in May 2013, according to reports.
All parties had apparently agreed that Rihanna would get paid a total of $425,000 to perform for 65 mins, and the promoter had already paid 3 instalments totalling up to $160,000.
Chris indicated that he was called by her representatives to have the show performed which he agreed to on the condition that she made the announcements of her social media platforms. Unfortunately, neither the announcement nor the show ever took place.
On the other hand, representatives of Rihanna believe that Ubosi is the victim of a scam.
“Rihanna, Roc Nation nor anyone associated personally or professionally with either party was in contact with this person.
Unfortunately, this person was scammed. Rihanna nor Roc Nation collected any money for this event,” a Roc Nation representative told TMZ
