Lagos state University, on Wednesday, held her convocation ceremony for the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015
academic sessions and the high point of the event was the heart-rending story of
Michael Arowosegbe Aderibigbe, the best graduating student.
Michael who finished with a
CGPA of 4.86 from the department of Biochemistry to emerge the best graduating
student out of 17,000 students of the combined convocation.
In his valedictorian speech,
Michael shared the embarrasment he faced having his father as a
contract
security guard with the campus marshall, and witnessing an incident during a
student protest when his father was stoned by the protesting students.
He said,
“Many of my friends and
colleagues never knew that he once worked as a contract staff, attached to the
Campus Marshal. I witnessed a students’ protest while in 100 level, where he
was stoned. I could not cry.
“As if that was not enough,
another incident occurred on November 9, 2012, which changed my father’s life
to this day. He had an accident on a bike, while on duty on campus, where he
hit his head and back against the University gate. He could not move any of his
limbs initially.”
