Popular social commentators/activists, Japheth Omojuwa (popular for his Twitter followership) and Ayo Sogunro (a lawyer turned columnist) gave Twitter netizens some entertainment today with the insults, subs, accusations and counter-accusations they threw at each other.
Granted, @Omojuwa is known as the Twitter Orubebe (a name he got due to his constant fights with other bigwigs on Twitter; the most prominent one being the exchange of words
Tweets between himself and Senator Ben Bruce). Therefore, it didn't come much as a shock to see him twitfighting again but what was surprising was his opponent - @AyoSogunro.
Omojuwa and Ayo Sogunro had openly voiced their support for the APC-led government during the campaign period. Though they both criticised the same government recently. They rarely interfered with each other inspite of the fact that they are both Political Twitter heavyweights.
Apparently what started today's twitfight was this tweet by Ayo Sogunro where he disclosed that a reliable source told him that Gov. Ambode of Lagos state is quietly not in support of the new fuel price.
Omojuwa - being one of the hailing hailers - questioned the reliability of this claim. Before we could say Iya Rainbow, everything went from zero to 100. Something that started with Ambode's position on fuel price hike soon turned into "This is above your pay grade", "At least I'm not depending on my boo to send me dollars from abroad before I eat", "You are still single even though you've been engaged twice", etc.
Honestly, for two supposedly intellectuals who churn out excellent reviews and articles on political and economic and social issues (one of them even being a celebrated author of two great books), the level of pettiness they descended to was just too low. Omojuwa, especially went too far by involving Ayo's girlfriend, Fola (who is also popular on Twitter as @LitaOfLagos). It was even revealed during the Twitfight that Lita and Omojuwa were actually good friends in real life.
As usual, other people (both well-meaning supporters and justfor-the-bants trolls alike) delved into the entertainment...
Who do you think was right? or rather who took it way too far and who came out as the bigger person out of the mess??
