This is not the best of times for FC Barcelona as things are going from bad to worse for them. First they crashed out of the UEFA Champions League last week now they have just lost their third match in a row after Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Valencia. As if to add insult to injury, Valencia beat them at Camp Nou, Barcelona's home ground. This was a hard pill to swallow for the players especially Brazilian forward, Neymar.
As the referee blew the whistle to end the game, the Valencia players all gathered to celebrate
their iconic win. Neymar decided to vent his frustration by slapping Valencia's right-back, Antonio Barragan, on the side of his face from behind. Barragan wanted to retaliate but he was held back by his team mates.
This incident wasn't seen by the referee so Neymar escaped being punished but it was picked up by cameras meaning the La Liga board would have to investigate the incident and Neymar could be handed a ban. This would further worsen Barcelona's already down-hill slide.
This series of defeats means that Barcelona who were cruising at the top of the La Liga some weeks back, now have their lead drastically reduced. Second-placed Atletico Madrid is now level on point with them and big rivals, Real Madrid is just one point behind.
This drastic grace to grass descent is definitely taking its toll on the players and manager.
