As if the obstacles surrounding the study of medicine is not enough, the NUC has stated that prospective medical students would now spend a minimum of 11 years in University before they would be a certified medical doctor.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie on

He said this was necessary in order to enable the students mature psychologically for the medical profession. He further explained that the new policy would require medical students to spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in the University after which they can now proceed to medical school to spend another seven years.
