Ricardo Medina Jr, a former Power
Rangers actor, has been arrested and officially charged with the murder of his roommate by allegedly stabbing
him to death with a sword.
According to a report from TMZ, a
detective from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department arrested the actor
outside his home on Thursday, Jan 14. And charged him with one count of murder.
Medina was initially arrested
last year after calling 911 to report the death of his roommate,
Joshua Sutter.
Once cops arrived at the scene, they arrested Medina and booked him for murder.
He was released days later, the district attorney’s office claimed a more
thorough investigation was necessary before making an official charge.
Medina, who starred in Power Rangers
Samurai, reportedly spoke with reporters when he was first released, saying, “I’m
very, very, very sorry for what occurred. I’m very happy to be out of jail, and
my heart goes out to the Sutter family.”
But Sutter’s family says Medina
was likely re-arrested and charged because the evidence wasn’t consistent with
his initial story. Medina first claimed self-defence against Sutter, who he
reportedly stabbed in the abdomen with a sword following an argument the two
had. Investigation however reportedly showed that Sutter had defensive wounds
on his hands. Additionally, the majority of blood was found outside Medina’s
room even though the actor claimed he escaped to his room to get away from
Sutter.
Medina faces up to 26 years in
prison should he be convicted of the crime.
