Manchester United have failed to qualify out of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League after losing 3-2 to Wolfsburg in Germany in the final group match played today.
The English side finished third in Group B. Wolfsburg and PSV Eindhoven advance to the round of 16 after finishing first and second in the group with 12pt and 10pts respectively; while, Manchester Utd drop to the Europa League.
Before the game, Man Utd and PSV were tied at 7pts with PSV while Wolfsburg had 9pts.
Man Utd opened the scoring with a goal from Martial in the 10th minute before Wolfsburg replied with two goals from Naldo and Vierinha before the interval.
The second half brought more heart-racing drama as Man Utd levelled via an own goal in the 82nd minute while PSV was tied one-all with CSKA in the other game. Two minutes later, Naldo brought Wolfsburg back into the lead while PSV scored a second to ensure they progress into the next round ahead of Man Utd.
This makes Man Utd the first of the wobbling English teams to crash out of the group stage of this year's champions league as Manchester City progressed. Arsenal and Chelsea await their fates tomorrow.
