Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia has called Turkey "accomplices of terrorists" after Turkey shot down a Russian plane near the Turkey-Syria border. He also labelled the incident "a stab in the back", concluding that "the tragic event will have serious consequences for Russian-Turkish relations."
This incident has sparked a diplomatic row between the two rival players in the Syria war. Turkey claims the Russian fighter jet, which was deployed by Russia in the air bombardment
of ISIS strongholds in Syria, was violating its (Turkey) airspace and it was shot down by the Turkish military after being warned ten times. Putin however differ; saying the plane fell in Syrian territory four kilometres from the border and "did not in any way threaten Turkey."![]() |
