Daredevil Armed robbers laid siege on several banks in Agbara
Industrial Estate of Ogun state in the early hours of Thursday, November 19, leaving a
pregnant woman and several others injured.
According to eyewitness accounts, the robbers, said to be about twenty, arrived the
Estate at about 7am and waited at strategic positions until the banks opened for business, before
commencing their act of terror. A bullion van with police escort was sprayed
with bullet and
the overwhelmed police officers had to abandon it due to the hoodlums'
superior firepower.
According to witnesses who spoke to Daily Trust, “Some of
the robbers stationed themselves in front of most of the Automated Teller
Machine (ATM) located at the banks visited. They blew them open with dynamite
and carted away cash stacked inside the ATM. Others held staff of the banks
hostage at gun point while they made attempt to enter the vault”
Another resident, Olumuyiwa Segun who spoke to the Cable
said that he was forced to lie on the ground for two hours while the robbery
lasted. “We had to lie on the floor for nearly two hours. I don’t know if it’s the
police that engaged themin shooting but the bullets kept flying all over”
Olumuyiwa said.
No official reports have been released yet about
the number of casualities but images shared on social media show that a
pregnant woman and at least three others were injured, while one person was reportedly killed during the robbery incident.
