Hidekichi Miyazaki is a 105 years old Japanese man who has his name in the Guinness
world records book as the fastest 100 metres record holder for the
over-80 category after finishing in 42.22 seconds.
He is also quite cheeky and
full of life for a man who was born in 1910. The centenarian, who has become a
celeb of some sorts in Japan, has been nicknamed “Golden Bolt” in reference to
the "Usain Bolt's lightning pose" he strikes at the end of
every record-breaking feat. He has
even boasted that “Bolt hasn’t raced him
yet”.![]() |

Hidekichi’s success on the tracks is so phenomenal that the
world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt is impressed and even tweeted about him;
posting a pic of him doing the pose with the caption, “S/O to Hidekichi
Miyazaki of Japan”.
In a recent interview with AFP, Miyazaki showed that age
doesn’t have to translate to senility with his witty responses:
When told about Bolt’s records and the fact that Bolt would
have ran the 100m four times in the time it took Miyazaki to finish just one
race, he said; “I’m still a beginner…I’m not happy with the time. I started
shedding tears during the race because I was going so slowly. Perhaps I’m
getting old!” says the 105 year-old. It is reported that he loses
valuable seconds at the start of the game because he ''doesn’t hear the starting
gun go off''.
Miyazaki went on to boast that “My brain might not be the
sharpest but physically I’m tip-top. I’m fit as a fiddle, the doctors are
amazed.I can definitely keep on running for another two or three years”. He
further said “I cant think of retiring…It’s all about willpower. You have to keep
going”.

It was reported that Bolt has agreed to race the
centenarian the next time he visits Japan. This would be pure splendid and
hilarious rolled in one!
