Freetown was wearing a new mood yesterday as families and
communities came out in numbers to celebrate the end of the deadly Ebola virus
in the country. Dauda Fullah, an Ebola
survivor told press people that there will be street carnivals all day in the
city of Kenema to commemorate the end of the virus. “We are happy that this day
has come, but we are not rejoicing, because we have felt the destruction to our
lives”, he intimated the press.
Just recently, WHO declared the country to be finally free
from the scourge that wiped away close to 4,000 lives. The country’s capital is
now bubbling with a new form of hope and sighs of relief. What turned out to be
a community wiper has now come to a stop. Though citizens of the country are
celebrating, it is coming with a soft silence that still mourns the deaths of
it’s victims.
We look forward to hearing Guinea being declared Ebola free also,
let’s all hope and pray,
