The Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonishakin, on Friday admitted
that a some Nigerian soldiers went missing after an intense gun battle
with Boko Haram fighters. Mr. Olonishakin, a general, said the soldiers went missing due to
some ‘operational issues’ during the ferocious struggle with the terrorists.
Many leading newspapers had reported that at least 105 soldiers
attached to the 157 battalion were missing after they came under fierce
attack from the insurgents in Gudunbali, Borno State, on
Wednesday morning. Nigerians have also heard many confusing reports regarding the issue, while some said they were held hostage, others claim they had been killed by the militants.
