The National Youth Service Corps have said that they will begin to prosecute corps members, who abscond from their national service for something else.
This is reaction to the fact that some corps members just run away from their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) to do something that isn't related to NYSC.
A corps member, Akeem Adekunle, was posted to Itam Secondary School in Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State but he didn't show up for a long time.
A team set up by the Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, went on to investigate the matter on ground. On getting to the young chap's family home, the NYSC people saw the "missing" guy. You can imagine their dismay.
The corper's family lied that he was missing while they were hiding him. Talk about corrupt practices at every level of the society.
Due to this development, the NYSC has expressly stated that it wouldn't tolerate any sort of that shenanigan in future. Hence, they'll start prosecuting runaway corpers.
To serve Nigeria is really by force.
