The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) which commenced
a nationwide strike on Thursday, called it off on Saturday as a result of successful
negotiations with the concerned authorities. A communiqué issued in Lagos by
the MWUN and NPA (Nigerian Ports Authority) announced the agreement of their
representatives.
The communiqué also stated that all outstanding payments
should be made to tally with records as agreed.
The President of the Shippers’ Association in Lagos State
said the association was very disappointed by the neglect of the maritime
workers in the country. He added that strikes in the ports were becoming very
embarrassing.
