Super Eagles of Nigeria |
The global football governing body, FIFA, has released its monthly world ranking for October and
it is good news all the way for Nigerian football as the Super Eagles moved up by one place.
The nation’s senior football team improved from its 53rd
position in the September ranking to the 52nd position in the latest FIFA ranking. This feat is
due to the fact that the Super Eagles gained points from the 2-0 friendly win over Niger and nil-nil daw
with Tanzania in
the qualifiers fo the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
This however does not reflect in Nigeria’s position among
African countries as the Super Eagles dropped a place to become the 10th ranked country in Africa, from their previous 9th position.
Algeria, at 19th in the world ranking, is the
highest ranked African country.Cote d'ivoire (21), Ghana (25), Tunisia (36), Senegal (38), Cape Verde (41), Cameroon (48), Egypt (51) and Nigeria (52), complete the top ten highest ranked African teams.
The top ten highest ranked countries in the world according
to FIFA are: Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Colombia, Spain. Brazil, Wales, Chile and England.
