Veteran rap artiste, Mode 9, has recently gave his reasons
why he won’t rap in Yoruba language. In a recent interview with The Vanguard Newspaper, the
rapper said there was no point in him rapping in any indigenous Nigerian
language.
He said:
“No, I can’t do that, you know why? If there are people doing something and they can do it better than you, there is no point in doing it too because they are already way ahead of you."
Despite being accused of being
snobbish and high-handed in his style of music in the past, the rapper has
continued with his style. He further said,
“It is harder for me to write a Pidgin English song than a normal English song. I can rap in English effortlessly. I don’t just write anything, I try to be clever with words like when I said, ‘They be bungalow brains, nothing upstairs;’ it’s a punch line, but it was done in Pidgin English.”

There you have it. He isn’t being
a snob. His Pidgin English isn’t good enough. It doesn’t come natural to him
just like some Nigerians including me.LOL!
