This is just not the best of times for Chelsea FC of
England’s coach, Jose Mourinho, as he seems to be battling one calamity after
the other.
As if being 16th and just two spots above relegation, in a league which they are the defending champions is not enough, the Chelsea boss has been handed a suspended one-match stadium ban and fined £50,000 by the English Football Association for comments he made about match officials.
Mourinho had claimed that officials were "afraid" to award penalties to his team, at the post-match press conference after his Chelsea team lost 3-1 against Southampton at Stamford bridge.
The one-match stadium ban would be enforced if Mourinho repeats the offence within a year. According to the FA, his comments "imply bias on the part of a match official".
Mourinho, who is never afraid of the FA axe, went on to say that "if the Football Association wants to punish me they can. They don't punish other managers". He has also called the fine a "disgrace" and said, "the possibility of getting a stadium ban is astonishing".
I just hope that when the EPL resumes this weekend, Chelsea's performance would match Mourinho's bloated ego.
