Iheanacho hits target for Man City |
It’s been a great Saturday so far for Nigerian footballers
plying their trade in the English top flight as they’ve had massive impacts for
their respective clubs in the games played today.
Prominent among Nigerian footballers doing great things for
their clubside is 18-year old Kelechi Iheanacho who scored Manchester City’s
only goal at the 90th minute in the game against Crystal Palace at
Selhurst Park.
The Nigerian under-17 superstar came off the bench to net
the winning goal at the dead of the match to sustain City’s 100% record and top
of the league position. Before the youngster came into the match, Crystal
Palace was having a decent spell while the 2013/2014 champions were struggling
to get their game together and it seemed as if City’s clean record would
finally be dented.
This goal is Iheanacho’s first ever premier league goal and
he becomes the 125th player to score for the citizens in the English
top division. The youngster has justified manager Manuel Pellegrini’s faith in
him by naming him in his star-studded squad despite the fact that he’s just an
18-year old player who won the 2014 U-17 world championships with Nigeria.

Odion Ighalo also scored the only goal as his Watford team
beat by one goal to nil. The Nigerian striker now has two goals in five matches
for his Clubside.
In a tale of mixed fortune, Nigerian midfielder, John Mikel
Obi had an assist for Chelsea but his team still lost three goals to one at
Everton.
Hopefully, this sublime form of our players for their Clubside
would transcend to the national teams.
Coach Sunday Oliseh, hope you are watching.
