Facebook founder
and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg stated in a public town hall meeting in Menlo Park,
California on Tuesday that the much sought after Dislike button will soon be
put in place on the website. Zuckerberg added that many users have been asking
when the site will introduce other buttons such as “I’m sorry”, “Interesting”,
or “Dislike”, to show their sympathy or dislike for a post.
"I think
people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special
day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping
it," Zuckerberg quipped on Tuesday.
He also said they
delayed in bringing this button because they did not want their social network
platform to be just for upvoting or downvoting posts, having realized users
simply wanted an option to empathize with issues, he assured that they have
been working on it.
“It is awkward
to click ‘like’ on a post about events such as the death of a family member or the
current refugee crisis. There should be an option for users to express that
they understand and relate with what you are going through. Not all moments are
happy ones.”
